H1N1 CLAIMS TWO LIVES IN THE STATE OF MAHARASHTRA, INDIA

As reported on CNN-IBN Live this morning, the number of people to die of swine flu in India to date has risen to six (Mumbai = 1, Pune = 3 & Chennai = 2). The state of Maharashtra itself has recorded two Swine Flu / Influenza A (H1N1) deaths and The Government will remain on high alert for the virus.

It is believed that the number of H1N1 flu cases in Maharashtra has touched 101, with the maximum cases reported from Pune, making Pune currently the epicenter of the disease in the country. A 14-year old Rida Shaikh became India’s first swine flu casualty who died at Jehangir Hospital in Pune on Monday, 3 August 2009.

The scene isn’t too different in Mumbai as well. The highly infectious H1N1 virus claimed a second life in the country with a 53-year-old Mumbai woman, Fahmida Panwala, who had tested positive for the H1N1 virus finally succumbed to death 5 days later which was on 8 August 2009 at Kasturba Hospital, Mumbai.

PERWAKILAN MUMBAI DOT COM would like to advise everyone to take these precautionary actions to avoid being contracted with the disease. “BETTER BE SAFE THAN SORRY“.

1. Avoid crowded area.

2. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.

3. Use alcohol based hand sanitizer.

4. It is advisable to wear a face mask or  handkerchief to cover your mouth and nose at public places.

5. Observe good personal hygiene.

6. Use paper towels for drying hands.

7. Monitor your health and watch out for these flu-like symptoms – fever, sore throat, cough, bady ache, runny nose, headache and tiredness. Once contracted, please remain indoor, make sure you and your family have put the face masks on and seek treatment as soon as possible.

IPL 2009 FEVER IS OVER

Everywhere you go around India, you can spot people playing cricket. By the roadsides, at open areas, on the rooftops, at the playgrounds… anywhere, everywhere. Cricket has become an obsession to the people of India since the British came to rule. And no wonder, India has the best cricket players in the world.

The second season of India Premier League (IPL 2009) held at South Africa started on April 18, 2009 and ended with a final between Deccan Chargers (Team Hyderabad) and Royal Challegers Bangalore (Team Bangalore) last night, May 24, 2009 at New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. At the end of the final, the world witnessed the underdogs Deccan Chargers win the IPL 2009 trophy by defeating the Royal Challengers by 6 runs.

It’s noticable that for 5 consecutive IPL weeks, most men in India prefered to stay at home with TV remote controls ‘glued’ to theirs hands just to make sure they were able to catch up with the latest updates of the IPL. It’s like a fever all over India! Now that the IPL is over, the roads in Mumbai are busy again.
